Meet Nate





Nate is currently pursuing his JD at The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D. C. Prior to moving to Washington, Nate served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, teaching English at Obchodná Akadémia in Rožňava, Slovakia. Prior to teaching in Slovakia, Nate was selected as a 2022 Hertog Foundation Political Studies Fellow

A native of Wicomico County, MD, Nate previously represented over 172,000 of his peers as the University System of Maryland’s sole voting
Student Regent. Prior to returning to the United States to begin his term as Regent, Nate interned
at UNESCO’s International Headquarters in Paris, serving within the Social and Human
Sciences Sector as Salisbury University’s 2019 Bosserman - UNESCO Fellow. Following his
time in France, Nate moved to Poland and began learning Polish as a Boren Awards Scholar.
Working within the Salisbury Mayor’s Office since high school, Nate has served both at home
and abroad as the City of Salisbury’s Sister City Liaison.

Following his graduation from Salisbury University’s Clarke Honors College in May 2021 with dual degrees in Political Science and Conflict Analysis & Dispute Resolution coupled with minors in European Studies and International Studies, Nathaniel Sansom served as Special Assistant to Salisbury, Maryland Mayor Jake Day. Furthering his passion for public policy, Nate authored Salisbury’s paid family leave program for municipal employees and has contributed to a myriad of local policy
initiatives, including Mayor Day's Here is Home initiative, the City's PILOT program to incentivize affordable housing, and a tax credit
program for Habitat for Humanity and Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services.

Furthering Salisbury’s international
partnerships, Nate has traveled to Tartu, Estonia to represent Salisbury, and has facilitated the
signing of the City’s Memorandum of Understanding with Salinas, Ecuador. Nate also pioneered
a virtual educational exchange between students at Pinehurst Elementary School in Salisbury and
students at a primary school in Dalian, China. In October 2021, Nate organized a Friendship
Bridge dedication in Salisbury in honor of the city’s relationship with Tartu. This event was
attended by officials including the Ambassador of Estonia to the United States, both of
Maryland’s United States Senators, members of the Maryland National Guard, and Maryland’s
Secretary of State.
